Apprentice Kerrie Raybould faces a short spell on the sidelines after being knocked unconscious when unseated from Temple Road, trained by her boss Milton Bradley, shortly after the start of a 5f handicap at Lingfield on Friday.

The incident unfolded after about 150 yards, when the Tristan Price-partnered Mercers appeared to clip heels and fall before badly hampering Temple Road, giving Raybould little chance of retaining the partnership.

Raybould was taken to hospital for further examination amid fears she had broken her right arm as well as being concussed, but after a long wait in A&E it emerged she had escaped with a badly bruised shoulder and upper-right arm.

The rider said on Saturday: "I hit the ground pretty hard in the fall as I had nowhere to go and was knocked unconscious for ten seconds – the near ten-hour wait at the hospital was probably the worst of it, but the concussion means I have a statutory week off."

She added: "I'm lucky to have got away without a bad injury as I have watched the incident back and it does not look good. I have to have a concussion test after seven or nine days and then I should be free to get back to riding."
