Glorious Goodwood will have a Swedish twist this summer thanks to a new link-up of qualifying races with Stockholm's Bro Park.

Three races at Bro Park on Stockholm Stora Day on June 16 will be qualifying races for the Glorious Goodwood meeting, including a spot in the Stewards' Cup.

In turn three races at Glorious Goodwood, which runs from July 30 to August 3, will be the gateway to travel to Stockholm Cup Day at Bro Park on September 23.

Winners of any qualifying race will enjoy free travel and entry to the reciprocal selected races at both Goodwood and Bro Park.

Dennis Madsen, head of racing at Svensk Galopp, said: "It's a huge honour for Swedish racing to be associated with Goodwood racecourse. However, we would not have accepted the relationship unless we thought we had something to offer towards it.

"It's a great opportunity for Swedish owners to travel aboard and get a unique experience and we believe we can give something back to British owners who want to run their horses at the valuable Stockholm Cup meeting."

Following Thundering Blue's two-length victory in the Group 3 Stockholm Cup last season, trainer David Menuisier has already tasted success in Sweden.

Menuisier, who took the popular grey to both Canada and Tokyo in search of further riches following the pair's Swedish success, said: "This is a great initiative by Goodwood and Bro Park. We were looked after brilliantly in Sweden last year and it's a really well run racecourse.

"We'll certainly look to support this initiative and would encourage others to do so and to experience racing in Sweden."

Goodwood clerk of the course Ed Arkell said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for Swedish owners to experience the unique charm of the Qatar Goodwood Festival and, equally, for British owners to run at Sweden’s most prestigious and valuable meeting."
