Crosse all set for Wednesday comeback and dreaming big with Kilfilum Cross

Dave Crosse is ready and raring to go when jump racing returns in Britain on Wednesday after an eight-day hiatus, with the jockey set to have his first rides since fracturing his thumb in May.

Crosse suffered a Bennett's fracture of his right thumb at Huntingdon when he was unseated close home in a bumper after his mount, Edabean, veered right and jumped over the rails and on to the chase course.

With the fracture now fully healed, Crosse is looking forward to getting going again, and said on Monday: "I should have four rides, three at Newton Abbot if they all get in and then one at Worcester in the evening.

"It's one of those injuries that you're out for as long as if you'd broken your arm or leg. I had it pinned and had the wires taken out four or five weeks ago and it's been a bit slow getting it right.

"I've given it the full length of time. If it was the winter I'd have probably been back ten days ago. It's the first time I've come back from an injury fully fit and healed, as generally you're rushing back, but for once I've taken my own advice."

Never afraid of a day's work, Crosse has not spent his time on the sidelines idly, with his jockey coaching course and hospitality hosting duties on track keeping him busy.

He added: "I've been racing nearly every day of the week since I did my thumb. I just had a couple of days off last week.

"I've been riding out and schooling for the last couple of weeks for a number of different trainers and I'm looking forward to the season getting going in earnest.

"Henry Oliver has some great horses to look forward to and I ride quite a few of his for owner Mark Dunphy.

"The horse I'll be looking forward to the most is Kilfilum Cross. He won novice hurdles at Chepstow and Kempton and should be a better novice chaser. He's potentially the one I've been looking for all my life."
