Cachet may bid for Classic double in France with Ascot-Inspiral clash possible

George Boughey is pondering the option of the French 1,000 Guineas for Cachet, although a possible clash with Newmarket absentee Inspiral in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot is also under consideration.

Cachet provided a memorable day for Boughey and the 20-strong Highclere Thoroughbred-Wild Flower syndicate when making all under James Doyle to the win the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday and a tilt at a second Classic at Longchamp on May 15 is a serious option.

Boughey said: "Cachet has been very straightforward since Sunday and we now have to work out whether we go to France or straight to Royal Ascot for the Coronation Stakes. We'll make the decision in the next four or five days I'd say.

"I think the French 1,000 Guineas will suit her, I didn't put her in the Irish version because the easier mile at Longchamp is probably more favourable to her."

Cachet and Prosperous Voyage, the first and second in the 1,000 Guineas, finished behind Inspiral in last season's Fillies' Mile and the John and Thady Gosden-trained 1,000 Guineas ante-post favourite could clash with Cachet in next month's Coronation Stakes on June 17, according to Cheveley Park managing director Chris Richardson.

"We were disappointed not to have been able to compete on Sunday but thrilled the form was thoroughly franked and we were pleased for Highclere that Cachet won so impressively," Richardson said.

"Our filly, as far as I know, is fine and the plan is to go to Sandown for the Heron Stakes before heading to the Coronation Stakes at Ascot."

'It was a shame not to have our filly there'

Richardson explained how a difficult preparation resulted in Inspiral not taking her chance in the Guineas. He said: "In the build-up to the Guineas we were hoping to have had a racecourse gallop during the Craven meeting, but it didn't materialise.

"If all trainers, especially John, give you the advice that the horse is not ready and hasn't been able to complete the perfect preparation for a big occasion then you have to listen.

"We won't be going to the Oaks. One of Mrs Thompson's [Patricia, owner of Cheveley Park] favourite races is the Coronation Stakes at the royal meeting and we've been fortunate enough to win it three times.

"It's very much the plan and then maybe a step up in trip at some point is quite likely. I think she'll certainly stay a mile and a quarter, but we're yet to establish if she'll stay a mile and a half.

"Mrs Thompson was at Newmarket and she enjoyed watching it, but knew it was a shame not to have our filly there. It would have been nice to have a homebred filly in the 1,000 Guineas, but it wasn't to be. We look forward to the top-class races later in the year and then perhaps next year, too."
