Bryony Frost will see a specialist in Cardiff on Wednesday over the extent of an injury to her left shoulder suffered in a fall at Southwell.

The 23-year-old jockey, who enjoyed a landmark Cheltenham Festival success when winning the Ryanair Chase on Frodon, needed hospital treatment after parting company with the Caroline Fryer-trained Midnight Bliss at the tenth fence in a 3m handicap chase on Monday.

Frost, who became the first woman jockey to win a Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival race, was able to walk away unaided after the fall but was taken to hospital for a precautionary x-ray.

She will have further scans in Cardiff to determine how long she is likely to be sidelined from the track.

Johnno Spence, Frost's commercial agent, tweeted on Tuesday: "Bryony is out of hospital and is waiting to see a specialist in Cardiff tomorrow to agree the best plan of action in terms of her rehabilitation."

Father Jimmy Frost had earlier said on Tuesday: "She's got home and is a bit sore. She will likely take an easy day today."

The injury is a blow to Frost little more than two weeks before the start of Aintree's three-day Grand National meeting.

Frost, who is one winner away from her 50th of the season, made front-page national news after Thursday’s Grade 1 success and also appeared on the BBC Radio 4 programme Woman's Hour.

Frost rode her first Grade 1 winner when steering Black Corton to success in the Kauto Star Novices' Chase in 2017.
