Bryony Frost aiming for King George return on Frodon after breaking collarbone
Bryony Frost is hoping to be back for the ride on Frodon in the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton on December 26 despite breaking her collarbone at Bangor on Saturday.
Frost sustained the injury in a crashing fall from the Paul Nicholls-trained Sir Psycho at the second fence in the 2m4½f novice handicap chase, with the rider taken to Wrexham Hospital to be assessed.
The 27-year-old has partnered Frodon on his last 21 starts, and 24 of his 41 starts in Britain and Ireland, including when a 20-1 winner of the King George in 2020. The Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and Champion Chase at Down Royal are other Grade 1 prizes they have won together.
Nicholls said on Monday: "Bryony is very sore and has broken her collarbone, she has sent her scans off to the specialist today to have a look at them. They'll come back to her with their opinion in a couple of days.”
Speaking to Betfair, he added: “She has her sights set on riding Frodon in the King George – that's around a month away – and hopefully her scan results are okay so she can proceed to aim for that day."
Frodon, who finished third to Protektorat in the Betfair Chase at Haydock this month, is a 20-1 chance for the King George with the race sponsors but as big as 33-1 with other firms. He finished fourth behind Tornado Flyer in the Kempton showpiece last year.
Nicholls is responsible for the top two in the King George betting, with Charlie Hall Chase winner Bravemansgame heading the market at 11-8 and Hitman, who was successful in a graduation chase at Haydock this month, priced at 4-1.
