Jockey Club Racecourses has lodged an official planning application for redevelopment plans at Sandown racecourse.

The outline application includes the creation of 318 homes or apartments, a 150-room hotel – positioned on to the end of the grandstand furthest away from the winning post – and the relocation and development of an existing children’s nursery.

Other potential improvements to existing racecourse facilities include a refurbished main grandstand, new pre-parade ring and improved stabling and racing staff accommodation.

Elmbridge Borough Council has set a target date of June 14 to reach a decision on the application.

Michael Yeadon

The funeral of Greatwood co-founder Michael Yeadon, who died last month aged 88, will take place on Monday at 1.30pm at St George's Church, Preshute, Marlborough.

Yeadon, who was a lifelong lover of racing, founded the charity, which uses former racehorses to educate disadvantaged children and young adults with special educational needs, with his wife Helen 21 years ago.

Towcester switch

Towcester's April 11 fixture has been moved to Huntingdon, the BHA announced on Wednesday. The afternoon fixture will be a seven-race card, with race programme details and further fixture information available via the Racing Admin website www2.racingadmin.co.uk
