ITV Racing received a huge boost ahead of next week’s Randox Health Grand National meeting when it was announced it had received a Bafta nomination for its coverage of last year’s big race.

Ed Chamberlin, lead presenter for ITV Racing, said on Wednesday: “I’m very lucky in that I am surrounded by so many brilliant people at ITV Racing, particularly those behind the scenes.

“I’d like to congratulate the people who have made this nomination possible, headed by Paul McNamara, one of sport’s top directors who has already won a Bafta.

“He’s coming back from the World Cup in Russia to direct Royal Ascot in June, which says a lot for racing. Richard Willoughby, Paul Cooper, Tim Williams and Rachael Jackson are other key members of the team who deserve a mention.”

Chamberlin, who is determined to make next week’s coverage of the world’s most famous race even better than last year, added: “It’s a great boost for the team ahead of the Grand National to be shortlisted for an award in only the first year of what I hope proves to be a very long journey.

“I was pleased with how things went last year, but there’s always room for improvement and that’s what I’m focusing on now."

The other three nominations in the sport category are Sky for its coverage of Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko; the BBC for the Six Nations rugby union clash between Wales and England, and Channel 4 for the women’s Euro semi-final between England and Holland.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Royal Festival Hall, London on Sunday, May 13.
