'It's surreal' - Cheveley Park's Richard Thompson reflects on A Plus Tard thrill
However you measure success, Cheveley Park's ascent from jump racing novices to Gold Cup winners in the space of four years is nothing short of remarkable and 24 hours on from A Plus Tard's irresistible surge to racing immortality under Rachael Blackmore, Richard Thompson was still struggling to come to terms with it all.
"We've had these National Hunt horses for four years and last year we were leading owners and we just thought we couldn't beat that," said Thompson. "But with three winners again across Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and to win the Gold Cup, I don't think you can put it into words."
Thompson's late father David first made a splash in the jumping world when purchasing Party Politics with his wife Patricia shortly before the Grand National in 1992.
