'It's not a prep run' - King George fancy Al Aasy fully tuned up for Newmarket

Al Aasy must pass a crucial test of his King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes credentials on Thursday but is "bouncing" as he heads a gang of stars for a rejuvenated Shadwell Stud team on the opening day of Newmarket's July festival.

The four-year-old finished second when sent off favourite for the Coronation Cup last month and will drop down in class for the 1m4f Group 2 before potentially tackling Ascot's Qipco-sponsored summer highlight, for which he is an 8-1 chance for behind market leader Love.

Al Aasy is one of a host of potential top-class performers on show for Shadwell, now under the leadership of Sheikha Hissa Hamdan Al Maktoum after the passing of her father Sheikh Hamdan, at the July course and the operation's racing manager Angus Gold reported him to be in fine fettle since his Epsom excursions.
