Leading apprentice Marco Ghiani is hoping to kick his career on even further following a chance opportunity that saw him become one of nine jockeys to land their first Royal Ascot winner last week.

The 3lb claimer picked up his first big-race success at the royal meeting when Real World stormed to an impressive victory in the Royal Hunt Cup last Wednesday, on a day he was meant to head to Chelmsford for its evening card instead.

The win was made more special for the Italian jockey having worn the famous Godolphin silks his fellow Sardinian-born rider Frankie Dettori has carried to countless victories at Flat racing's showpiece.
