'I never thought I'd win one championship, never mind five' - Colin Keane thrilled to secure yet another jockeys' title
Colin Keane is determined to surpass last season’s winning total of 92 and put the cherry on top of a fifth jockeys' championship in Ireland.
After Wednesday's lost Curragh fixture was rescheduled for next Tuesday, there are still six meetings remaining in the title race, three at Dundalk and three on grass, but Keane already has it well wrapped up with 89 winners and is 18 clear of his nearest pursuer Billy Lee.
His main source of winners has once again been Ger Lyons, but his main employer has only supplied 29 of them this year compared to 54 in 2022, and it has been Noel Meade who has made up the difference. The multiple champion jumps trainer has enjoyed a terrific 2023 with Keane riding 16 winners for him.
