Mrs Sippy makes Longchamp raid pay off for Simcock and Spencer
Prix des Tourelles - Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage (Listed)3yo+ fillies & mares | 1m4f
The course commentator called it right when he described Mrs Sippy as winning more comfortably than it appeared after Jamie Spencer guided the daughter of Blame to a length-and-a-quarter success.
Last seen when a decent fourth in a Deauville Group 2 over 1m2f last month, Mrs Sippy was anchored at the back of what was not the most strongly run race of the year on Longchamp's Grande Piste.
But David Simcock's charge – the only three-year-old in the line-up – carved through the field behind Bhageerathi before Spencer pulled her out to settle matters inside the final furlong.
Spencer said: "It was a messy race and I was concerned about the position I was in but David was adamant that she had to be relaxed and finishing her race, rather than over-racing, even if it meant winning or losing."
The St Albans Bloodstock homebred is not entered in the Prix de Royallieu over course and distance Arc weekend, but does hold an engagement for the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares at Ascot on October 20.
Spencer added: "Today we learned a bit more about her and I think she’ll be a good filly next year. It’s all about next year with her."
