Jockey James Doyle stood down after Randwick fall

James Doyle: jockey expects to be back riding in three weeks
James Doyle: has been riding well in Australia this winter

James Doyle was forced to give up a ride at Randwick on Monday after his mount Pearls fell in the penultimate race on the card.

The rider, who has spent the winter in Australia after Godolphin's former jockey James McDonald was suspended for betting on a race, was treated by medical staff on the course after Pearls came down in the 6f contest.

Godolphin wrote on Twitter: "After race nine [James Doyle] is up and conscious and walked over to the ambulance. He is okay and just having a final check with first aid at the track."

Doyle, who had earlier ridden Hartnell to finish second to the mighty Winx in the Apollo Stakes, was stood down from his ride on Encostanati in the final race at Randwick. Pearls was taken for assessment by vets.

Having lost his role as number one rider to Saeed bin Suroor at the end of last season, Doyle has been enjoying a good time of things in Australia after stepping in to replace James McDonald.

McDonald, who had impressed during the summer in Britain last year, was handed an 18-month suspension in December for breaching the rules on betting. Godolphin subsequently released him from his contract with them.
