Frankie Dettori in action as he leads strong British-based German Derby charge

Frankie Dettori continues his post-Gosdens career by partnering So Moonstruck in the Group 1 Deutsches Derby (2.45) at Hamburg on Sunday.

Dettori is one of a number of British-based riders taking part in the Classic, with Derby-winning jockey Richard Kingscote, Hollie Doyle, who won the Prix de Diane, Jack Mitchell and Cieren Fallon also in action in the 1m4f contest.

It will be the second Sunday in a row that Dettori has ridden abroad after finishing seventh on Hardmet in the Turkish Derby last weekend, with the rider outlining how he expects to spend most of this month not riding in Britain.

"If you don't see me ride domestically it's not because I gave up, it's because I'm riding abroad," he said. "But I'm intending to ride all of this year and definitely next year."

That message was delivered at Newmarket last Saturday following confirmation that the rider and the Gosden yard were taking a "sabbatical" from their successful seven-year association after a number of publicly critical comments from John Gosden about Dettori's riding.

Dettori has not ridden in Britain since steering Lezoo to success in the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket for trainer Ralph Beckett.

Trained by Markus Klug for Baron Georg von Ullmann's Gestut Schlenderhan, So Moonstruck was narrowly beaten in a Group 3 in Cologne on his most recent outing and would be Dettori's first success in the Deutsches Derby since Temporal in 1991.

Klug has also booked Hollie Doyle to ride Wagnis and Kingscote to partner Mylady, while Doyle and Dettori also ride for trainer in the Group 3 Mehl Mulhens-Trophy (12.30).

Strong field declared for Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud

Group 1 action also takes place in France on Sunday, with last year's Irish Derby one-two Hurricane Lane and Lone Eagle set to go head-to-head in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (3.00).

Lone Eagle finished third to Third Realm, who reopposes at Saint-Cloud, on his comeback in a Listed race at Goodwood in May, while Hurricane Lane was beaten as favourite for the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.

Alpinista, winner of three Group 1s in Germany last year, makes her return to action for trainer Sir Mark Prescott and jockey Luke Morris, with High Definition representing Aidan O'Brien.
