Waldgeist thwarts Enable but the Arc's dual champion is mighty in defeat

At the hands of the man they call Little Napoleon, Enable met her Waterloo.
It was an exhausting, gruelling, heartbreaking battle, and it was a battle she lost, but the reputation of a racehorse can be bolstered in defeat as well as victory. If you had not believed that before the 98th running of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, you surely do now.
When Frankie Dettori sent Enable into the lead just after the two-furlong pole, it looked as though those present at Longchamp were set to see a most wonderful piece of history made before their eyes. With 200 metres to run she was clear. With 100 metres to run she was clear. At the winning post she was no longer clear. Instead she was a length and three-quarters behind Waldgeist. Andre Fabre had done it again.
