Impossible not to sympathise with racecourses - but they must be more decisive

It is easy to be outraged when a meeting is called off 13 minutes before it is due to start and after four inspections, but there has to be some sympathy for racecourses operating in this present climate.

The desire to want to give a fixture every chance to go ahead is admirable, especially with how things are. Racing professionals and owners need the opportunity to race their horses, to get paid and earn a living and to potentially recoup some prize-money to boot.

Racecourses have also had significant holes blown in their finances due to not being able to have spectators in for several months, and the income provided by online streaming and media rights payments is all the more important. As such, there is an understandable desire to try and allow racing to take place if possible.
