Mumbo Jumbo
Second, Newbury, Wednesday

There was a relatively steady gallop in this useful bumper and runner-up Mumbo Jumbo produced a promising debut effort in pulling well clear of the pack.

Having travelled smoothly in the testing conditions, Emma Lavelle's five-year-old stayed on nicely once asked for maximum effort at the two-furlong marker to finish on the heels of the race-fit Fine Casting.

The pair pulled an encouraging eight lengths clear of the third, and the winner is evidently held in high regard by trainer Ben Pauling, who suggested a possible tilt at the Aintree bumper in April.

Mumbo Jumbo is entitled to improve a good deal from this initial outing and looks more than capable of landing something similar in the coming months. (Olly Eden)

Longshanks
Fifth, Wincanton, Thursday

Longshanks shaped nicely for a return to longer trips and will be of significant interest if heading down down the handicap route in the near future.

Sent off a well-backed 4-1 chance, the Philip Hobbs-trained gelding made headway rounding the home turn and kept on in pleasing style for fifth behind horses who had raced prominently throughout.

Micheal Nolan was not overly hard on his mount and the form of his debut sixth in October continues to read well, with the first three horses home now rated 140, 138 and 124 respectively.

With form figures of 6F5 under rules, Longshanks should qualify for a fairly low rating and could be a dark horse worth following. (Olly Eden)

Storm Melody
Fifth, Lingfield, Thursday

Storm Melody was quite well backed ahead of the 6f apprentice handicap at Lingfield on Thursday, but those who invested their hard-earned on the Ali Stronge-trained eight-year-old were in for a difficult watch as he completely fluffed the start and lost all chance.

Still last and by some way turning in, he kicked in the turbo inside the final furlong and flew home to somehow finish within a length of third spot.

He's on a losing run dating back to July 2019, but he's dropped almost 20lb in the ratings since then and has been threatening to take advantage for some time. It will happen soon. (Marcus Buckland)

Prevalence
First, Gulfstream Park, Saturday

Even if you are not a big watcher of Stateside action, it will be worth making an exception to watch the replay of Prevalence's debut on dirt at Gulfstream Park at the weekend.

Godolphin's son of Medaglia d'Oro was contesting one of the strongest maiden races run in the US this season, but he treated the opposition like a group of selling platers and won hard held by eight and a half lengths.

It was one of the most impressive debuts I've ever witnessed either side of the pond and I think he could be something very special. (Marcus Buckland)
