Hogan unsuccessful with 'non-trier' appeal but Glynn ban reduced to eight days

Denis Hogan was unsuccessful with his appeal against a €3,000 fine imposed for Narynkol breaching the 'non-trier' rule at the Curragh last month, although rider Alan Glynn has had his ban reduced to eight days from 12.

Narynkol finished fourth in the Apprentice Derby under Glynn on June 26 and the stewards took a dim view of the performance from the 50-1 shot, who got within a length of the winner, Tonkinese.

Glynn reported to the clerk of the scales at the Curragh on the night in question that he had got his whip caught in Narynkol’s mane when trying to change his hands. He stated that the whip getting caught caused him to lose his rhythm and he became unbalanced, adding it was then too late when he tried to make a challenge.

Phil Heenan, Hogan's authorised representative, told the stewards that Glynn is not a strong rider and that is why the ride caught the eye, but said he was satisfied.

Hogan appealed against the decision of the stewards but lost the case at the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board headquarters on Monday and must pay a fine of €3,000, while Narynkol cannot run for 50 days.
