Woolfall Treasure’s stable groom during his racing career yesterday paid tribute to “my favourite” following the grey’s shocking killing at his retirement home.
Susie Mabb, who looked after Woolfall Treasure at Gary Moore’s yard for five years, said: “I looked after Wolfie from the day he arrived with Gary until he retired. He was such a lovely horse – my favourite – and the best work horse in the yard. I can’t believe anyone would do anything so cruel.”
Woolfall Treasure, who was retired in April 2013 after a 58-race career, was found dead on Friday in a field at Kemnal Manor Stables near Chislehurst, south-east London, where he was kept by owner Myra McKenna. The 11-year-old had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
