Hayley Turner hopes more jockeys will be encouraged to speak out against behaviour they believe is unacceptable in the weighing room, and that this will reduce its overall prevalence, after John Egan was banned for ten days for improper conduct at Chester on Saturday.

Egan was found in breach of rule (J) 20 by racecourse stewards having used “threatening and abusive language” towards Turner after the 7f handicap. The rule has an entry point penalty of four days for riders with a maximum ban of 21 days.

Turner outlined that she had reported Egan to the stewards out of a desire to promote better interaction between jockeys, and that she had been encouraged to do so by other riders, with Frederick Larson, Jason Watson and Paul Mulrennan present during the stewards’ inquiry.
