Haggas making Headway towards the Guineas with live outsider

Unusually, Haggas staged a public workout of his Qipco 2,000 Guineas entry on the Rowley Mile at 9.30 am on Wednesday, where the Listed Spring Cup winner was reunited with James Doyle for a 7f exercise with stablemates Hakeem (Richard Hills) and Mojito (Michael Hills). The trio came up the fresh stands' side course which was riding slower than anticipated but Doyle's mount still found enough purchase to finish nicely in front. If there is soft in the going description come Saturday week, Haggas is to reroute his hope elsewhere.

The world famous Limekilns training grounds were open for business for the first time this year and Kelleway won the race to be first to use them by getting up at 4am to box her team over from Exning to the pristine facility well before 6am. Gerald Mosse cut the ribbon on the short gallop aboard this speedy three-year-old, who runs at Sandown on Friday, and was among many jockeys to describe the lush surface as riding "like a carpet".

Tomyris Roger Varian

Varian's yard lies under three furlongs from the bottom of the Limekilns so he was keen to make best use of the fresh ground at both first and second lot. This Listed winner was noted travelling well in her group over seven furlongs and looks a Group winner in waiting this year when targets like the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot will be on her radar.

Former jockey Willie Ryan knows his way around the Limekilns having ridden many of the Sir Henry Cecil big guns in the glory days at Warren Place. Now part of the ground crew at Moulton Paddocks, Ryan looked on as the Qipco 1,000 Guineas entry was sent about her business on the short gallop by William Buick. Last year's Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner will need some ease in the ground if she is to head to post on the Rowley Mile on May 6.

The Racecourse Side equivalent of the Limekilns is known as the summer gallop, which stretches for over two miles with a bend in the middle. Lanigan did not utilise the whole of the facility with this unexposed handicapper, who mixed it with Lingfield winner Roundabout Kitten and Excelabit and heads to Leicester on Saturday.
