Without Parole, who was generally sixth favourite for the 2,000 Guineas at around 12-1 on the back of an impressive six-length triumph at Yarmouth last week, was ruled out on Tuesday after a setback.

Trainer John Gosden reported: "He's got a little bruise in his off-fore right front foot just in the heel. There's a bit of heat and a little bit of tenderness.

"It could have brewed up from the race. Like any little bruise it comes there and pops into a little abscess form. It's typical of how a bruise comes. He didn't go and step on anything.

"It's not a big thing but he's not going to be running in a Guineas. It's early in the year and there's no need to panic."

The trainer added: "I think with a horse like this we'll get a nice race in before Royal Ascot, that's the way to look at it. He's a very nice type and we'll treat him with respect.

"We’ll look to go to the Heron Stakes at Sandown, and then on to the St James’s Palace Stakes."
