Savills Chase hero A Plus Tard is set to head straight to the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup in March in search of a poignant first success for owners Cheveley Park Stud in the festival's showpiece event.

David Thompson, who along with his wife Patricia built up one of Britain's most important breeding and ownership operations in Cheveley Park Stud, died at the age of 84 just a day after A Plus Tard's career-best performance in beating Kemboy at Leopardstown.

The Henry de Bromhead-trained seven-year-old proved his stamina for three miles and showcased great versatility, having won a Grade 1 chase over 2m1f at the meeting 12 months earlier.
