Funeral details for Sergeant Cecil's owner-breeder Don Hazzard
The funeral of Don Hazzard, owner and breeder of record-breaking stayer Sergeant Cecil, will take place on Monday.
The service starts at 12.15pm at West Wiltshire Crematorium, Devizes Road, Semington, Trowbridge BA14 6HL.
Hazzard, who also owned horses with Mark Gillard and Seamus Mullins, ran a longstanding family plant nursery business with his late wife Janet in the Wiltshire town of Mere.
Sergeant Cecil, owned by Hazzard's friend Terry Cooper, went into the record books when becoming the first horse to win the Northumberland Plate, Ebor and Cesarewitch.
He went on to Group-race glory in the Yorkshire, Lonsdale and Doncaster Cups and reached the Group 1 pinnacle in the 2006 Prix du Cadran.
Doncaster fixture transferred to Newcastle
The BHA has announced this Sunday's meeting at Doncaster has been transferred to Newcastle.
The switch is due to an electrical fault at Doncaster racecourse which means it is unable to stage the fixture.
Entries will close on Thursday at midday with declarations at the 48-hour stage as normal.
Jon Pullin, racing director at Arena Racing Company, said: "We have unfortunately suffered a major electrical fault at Doncaster which may not be fixed in time for Sunday’s scheduled fixture. While we have engineers on site working to address the problem, they can not guarantee the time scale to get the issue fully sorted.
"As such, we are grateful to BHA and horsemen due to run at Doncaster for their understanding."
