'Frustrating' Cheltenham withdrawal leads to Fergal O'Brien veterinary complaint

A veterinary decision not to grant a second opinion is the subject of a complaint referred to the BHA over the withdrawal of the well-fancied Marquis Of Carabas at Cheltenham on Friday.

Marquis Of Carabas was declared to make his stable debut for Fergal O'Brien after a 900-day layoff, with top Irish amateur Derek O’Connor booked to ride, but failed a routine veterinary check for horses returning from such an absence.

An inquiry was held on the day with the trainer, veterinary officer and a BHA steward interviewed, and the matter was referred to the BHA’s head office.
