Fillies' Mile winner Pretty Gorgeous to miss 1,000 Guineas after bad scope
Joseph O'Brien's Guineas weekend got off to the worst possible start on Friday morning when the trainer had to rule his Fillies' Mile winner Pretty Gorgeous out of Sunday's Qipco 1,000 Guineas.
Pretty Gorgeous had been a best-priced 9-2 second favourite behind red-hot market leader Santa Barbara for the first fillies' Classic of the season.
O'Brien, who runs second favourite Thunder Moon in Saturday's 2,000 Guineas, said: "It's obviously disappointing and very frustrating for everybody involved as we were really looking forward to seeing how she would get on in the Guineas.
"However, it's going to be a long season and there are plenty of big races to come later in the year. We were conscious that we had to do the right thing by the filly but we're still very excited about what she might achieve going forward."
The daughter of Lawman was one of the two-year-old stars of last season, winning the Group 2 Debutante Stakes at the Curragh on just her third start.
Prior to winning her maiden Group 1 at Newmarket last October, Pretty Gorgeous was narrowly touched off in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes by Shale, trained by Joseph's brother Donnacha.
