Good things come to those who wait. That proverb has been discarded generally, not just in the speed-obsessed racing industry, but Friday's Doncaster Cup could be held up as a shining example of its veracity after Sheikhzayedroad's battling victory.

Trainer David Simcock bypassed the Lonsdale Stakes at York last month with Sheikhzayedroad, and in his absence Quest For More took full advantage under shock front-running tactics.

This time, however, Sheikhzayedroad was there to take on Quest For More and Simcock's patience was rewarded with a nose success.
