When it comes to matters of the turf the Newmarket trainer has one of the most analytical minds in the business and this week he fired some wise words about the importance of breeding stamina into the thoroughbred and protecting and championing races such as tomorrow’s Ladbrokes St Leger.

The Classic is the highlight of Doncaster’s St Leger meeting, but is ably backed up by the Doncaster Cup, the track’s oldest prize and main feature on Friday.
