Numbers don't add up for track's feature race

The race title may say the Doncaster Cup is celebrating its 250th running on Friday, but it seems someone at the track has got their numbers wrong.

While it is the 250th anniversary of the race, which was first staged in 1766 and pre-dates the the St Leger by ten years, it has not been run every year during that period.

The race was not staged during the world wars and has been run only 239 times according to Racing Post historian John Randall.
