Ed Dunlop admitted on Monday that Red Verdon had been held up by health issues which have dented confidence in his prospects of landing the Ladbrokes St Leger on Saturday.

The Derby sixth and Irish Derby fourth was 8-1 joint-third favourite with the sponsor after 15 horses remained among the entries for the season's final Classic.

However, his trainer said the colt's participation had been "touch and go" as a result of problems that emerged after he finished second in the Grand Prix de Paris in July.
