Ferguson proud of team effort as Godolphin's wait goes on
John Ferguson spoke of his pride in the efforts of the five Godolphin runners, including third-placed Hartnell and fourth Qewy as he vowed: "We'll be back!"
A little over a week since Hartnell had finished second to Winx in the Cox Plate, the British import could only chase in vain again as Almandin and Heartbreak City pulled away from him to ensure Godolphin's wait for a Melbourne Cup victory goes on.
Hartnell was ultimately beaten four and a quarter lengths into third, with another large break back to the admirable Qewy, who added a Melbourne Cup fourth to his Supreme Novices' Hurdle fifth.
