Excited McDonogh picks up ride on The Grey Gatsby

The Grey Gatsby played the role of party pooper when getting up late to deny hot favourite Australia in the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes two years ago and Declan McDonogh is excited about partnering the experienced five-year-old in his attempt to regain the coveted crown.

If you required proof that it is one of the hottest contests of the season so far, quotes of 33-1 about The Grey Gatsby is ample evidence. He's a two-time winner at the top level and McDonogh hopes a return to Leopardstown could spark the popular grey back into life.

"It is like the Arc, isn't it? It is an unbelievable race but I cannot wait to ride The Grey Gatsby and I am delighted to have got the call-up. He might be 33-1 but he does not know he is 33-1," McDonogh said.
