There has been plenty of significant two-year-old action in recent days and undoubtedly the best performance came from Churchill in the National Stakes at the Curragh.

The progressive son of Galileo took another step forward with an impressive success, pulling four and a quarter lengths clear of Mehmas (107) and Lockheed (106) to post a Racing Post Rating of 118.

This was the most impressive of Churchill's wins yet, although with Mehmas looking a non-stayer and the fourth home Son Of Rest (102) beaten in a maiden on his only previous start, the definitive standard of the bare form may take a little time to unravel.
