It might not have been in the script, but Wicklow Brave capped another hugely successful Irish Champions Weekend by overturning Order Of St George in the Irish St Leger.

The potent combination of Willie Mullins and Frankie Dettori brought back memories of Vintage Tipple's famous Irish Oaks triumph for Dettori and Mullins's late, great father, Paddy. A bit of Frankie magic added to the weekend's variety.

As the torrents poured down around the country throughout Friday, there was the fear that things might begin to unravel for ICW. Mercifully, both Leopardstown and the Curragh were charmed, missing the worst of the rainfall to produce lovely ground conditions.
