The days when French Derby heroes such as Dream Well, Montjeu and Dalakhani headed to the Curragh to take on their Anglo-Irish contemporaries vanished with the shortening of the Prix du Jockey Club in 2005.

Jean-Claude Rouget seeks to resurrect the tradition with Almanzor, who swept to Classic success on soft ground at Chantilly in June and then confirmed that form on a much faster surface at Deauville last month.
