Roger Teal is hoping to bring some of the sunshine he has been enjoying on holiday in Mexico to dry out Cheltenham as he plots a first festival winner with the fancied Ocean Wind.

The trainer is best known for his exploits on the Flat but has a serious chance of success at Prestbury Park with the four-year-old, who is as short as 10-1 for the the Weatherbys Champion Bumper.

Ocean Wind has experienced differing types of ground on his three starts for Teal, but his two wins – including last time out in a Listed bumper – have been achieved on good.

Teal said: "We're very happy with him and he's run round Cheltenham, which is a bonus. I'm hoping it dries up a bit. When he ran at Cheltenham [finished second] it was dead ground and he ran okay but he just didn't find the top gear that he did next time at Newbury.

"He'll handle soft ground but to see the best of him it would be better if 'good' was somewhere in the going description."

On Tuesday the ground was officially described as soft at Cheltenham.

Ocean Wind started his career with Godolphin, though never made it to the track before joining Teal, and a summer Flat campaign is on the cards.

Teal added: "He might go to Aintree depending on how he runs at Cheltenham, but I think he could be quite exciting on the Flat in staying races.

"He's not over big so he'd be more suited to the Flat and he's an exciting little horse."

The impending Flat season could start with a bang for Teal, as he is set to be represented in the first Classic of the season, the Qipco 2,000 Guineas, with Kenzai Warrior.

Unbeaten in two starts as a juvenile, the second of which came in the Group 3 Horris Hill at Newmarket, Kenzai Warrior is a general 33-1 chance for the Guineas.

Teal has recent experience of success with a big-priced runner in the 2,000 Guineas, as Tip Two Win finished runner-up at 50-1 in 2018.

Discussing Kenzai Warrior, Teal said: "He's wintered really well. He'll definitely go straight to the Guineas. He's a precocious horse and sometimes the trials are a bit too close to the actual race. I'd rather go there fresh and healthy and see what happens."
