As one star stepped into the spotlight, another exited stage right. Phil Smith, outgoing senior handicapper, received a rousing round of applause as he belatedly took his seat on the panel, delayed due to treatment following recent back surgery.

"Never has more love been shown for a handicapper," says chair Lee Mottershead.

"Only because I'm leaving," quips Smith.
