Lisa Hales, daughter of One Man's owner John Hales, reflects on the great grey's festival win

The 1998 Queen Mother Champion Chase marked the magnificent One Man's fourth appearance at the Cheltenham Festival. His earlier efforts had ended in the disappointment of near-identical non-staying performances in the Sun Alliance Chase and the Gold Cup, but the drop back to two miles was to bring him and his connections a hugely popular change of fortune.

It's still the best day we've ever had in racing, although we've had some very good days since then. He'd beaten Strong Promise in the Comet Chase at Ascot the month before and on that evidence we decided to have a go at the Champion Chase.
