Ballymore Novices' Hurdle

Sporting John has won all four of his starts, all of which came on soft ground.

Philip Hobbs' ace novice enjoyed back-to-back wins at Exeter, winning both in eyecatching fashion, before sluicing through the testing ground at Ascot last month, winning a competitive four-runner contest by six and a half lengths.

Taking on Envoi Allen is no easy feat but at least Sporting John will have the conditions in his favour.

RSA Insurance Novices' Chase

Three of four Copperhead's best RPRs were achieved when the ground was described as soft, including his hugely impressive Reynoldstown win at Ascot last time.

The six-year-old, trained by Colin Tizzard, has progressed rapidly in just over a year – rising from a mark of 104 to 155 – and looks set to relish the conditions in this Grade 1 event.

On his penultimate start, at Newbury, Copperhead won over 3m2f, so he 1undoubtedly has the requisite stamina for the tough test that is the RSA.

Golan Fortune
Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle

Phil Middleton's runner is an outsider in this race but he has a great record in these conditions and could have a chance at a big each-way price.

His best two runs have come on soft ground, including a Grade 3 handicap second to Topofthegame in 2018 and his Kempton Boxing Day win the year before.

He looks well handicapped here and his jockey, 7lb claimer Sam Lee, rode him to win a Listed race at Cheltenham in November.

Defi Du Seuil
Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase

Defi Du Seuil may not necessarily need soft ground to perform at his best, but his record on the going is exceptional and he warrants plenty of respect in these conditions.

The Champion Chase favourite has won six of his seven starts on soft ground, with the sole defeat coming in 2018 where he struggled to show any form.

In a thrilling Wednesday feature, he has big claims on the form of his three wins this season. Perhaps he will continue to ooze his class on conditions he is proven in.
