Cheltenham Festival Day 4 Races
The Cheltenham Festival climaxes with a seven-race card headlined by the highlight of the week, the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup. The roll of honour for the most prestigious race of the season features legendary chasers Golden Miller, Arkle, Best Mate and Kauto Star, and last year's winner Al Boum Photo will bid to become the first horse since Best Mate to successfully defend his crown. The day begins with the first of three Grade 1s, the JCB Triumph Hurdle, which features a fascinating clash between exciting juveniles Solo, Goshen and Allmankind, before the three-mile Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle provides the appetiser for the Gold Cup.
Cheltenham Festival Day 4 Tips
Our experts pick their selections for each race on day four of the Cheltenham Festival to help you find more winners.
- Preference is for Solo, who was highly impressive in the Grade 2 Adonis at Kempton last month on his first run for Paul Nicholls.
- The one to appeal most is Saint Roi, who won very easily in a maiden hurdle last time. This five-year is very promising.
- Last year's Champion Bumper third Thyme Hill is a tough cookie and looks just the job for this race.
Cheltenham Gold Cup (3.30) - (nap)
- Preference is for Al Boum Photo, who sets the standard on the form of his win in this race last year and has had an identical prep.
- Last year's winner Hazel Hill is taking on some very promising types from Ireland, namely Stalker Wallace.
- Lisp, Paloma Blue and Greaneteen have big runs in them but narrow preference is for Eclair De Beaufeu.
Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle (5.30) -
- This can go to Flash The Steel, who failed to stay 3m at Haydock last time out in November and retains potential now back down in trip.
