The chief executive of Great British Racing has insisted the Qipco British Champions Series still had a future despite failing to capture the imagination of the sport, unlike Champions Day.

The 35-race series, strung through the Flat calendar from the Guineas meeting, was designed to link contests over different distances, with points awarded for success, feeding interest - or 'narrative' towards its Champions Day climax.

In past seasons the leading horses, jockeys and trainers have been recognised, but this year the points tally for the horses has been quietly dropped, with performers instead ranked by their official BHA ratings.
