The long wait for a second Royal Ascot winner ridden by a female jockey will go on until 2019 at the earliest, but rising star Nicola Currie is aiming to become the first woman rider to strike on Champions Day.

Since its inception in 2011 the meeting has provided plenty of memorable moments, but none have included a female jockey returning to the prime spot in the winner's enclosure.

Royal Ascot has proved barren ground since 1987 when Gay Kelleway partnered Sprowston Boy to victory in the Queen Alexandra, but Currie has a leading chance to create her own slice of history on Saturday with Balmoral Handicap favourite Raising Sand.
