So proud of Marsha but time to get back home to fix the steam cleaner

Sir Mark Prescott saddled his first runner at the Breeders' Cup when Marsha contested the Turf Sprint on Saturday. She finished sixth on the final start of her career. In the last instalment of his daily diary, his assistant William Butler looks back on the experience...

What a week. The whole team feel proud of how Marsha ran today. She gave herself every chance and to be beaten roughly a length by the best of America was no disgrace.

Going into the race we were worried if a long season would catch up with her, whether she would jump well enough to give herself a chance and handle the track.

If you don't win but have no excuses you can only be delighted. She ran right up to form and just wasn't quite good enough to beat the quickest horses in the US.

The sadness is that she's run her last race and now heads to the sales. She has been an absolute pleasure to be around and her character was epitomised by the way she stood like a rock to be saddled.

There were many people who played a big part this week and many to thank including those who helped get Marsha to the US like Adrian and James from the IRB and Brian the flying groom.

But first and foremost I must thank Mr Hill, Dan, Ryan and all the members of Elite Racing for sending us such a lovely filly at the outset and then being so easy and enjoyable to train for.

Our staff Alyson and Sara left no stone unturned in making sure Marsha got to the post in super order, while Luke stepped up to the world stage and gave both his mounts wonderful rides.

Lastly we must not leave out the team back at Heath House: Manuel, who rides Marsha every day, Rosie and Josh, who ran the yard in the absence of Sir Mark and myself, and Katie, who handled all the paperwork but made Sir Mark fly further than anybody to get to Del Mar.

It will be back to reality on Monday. As Gun Runner is winning the Breeders' Cup Classic I am boarding the red eye from San Diego to be back for Monday morning for the week of annual maintenance at Heath House. Word has it the steam cleaner has blown up.
