Rushing Fall does the business for Brown with September third

Chad Brown, arguably the top turf trainer in the States, got the home team off to a flying start when saddling Rushing Fall to victory in the Juvenile Fillies Turf, the opening race of the 2017 Breeders' Cup, which did not go to plan for the British and Irish runners.

Best Performance was second, while September fared best of the raiders by flying home late to claim third after a slow start under Seamie Heffernan.

Ridden by Javier Castellano, Rushing Fall was drawn in stall 11 and was providing Brown with his ninth winner at the meeting and fourth in the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Asked how good the unbeaten three-time winner was, Castellano, who rode the Brown-trained New Money Honey to victory in the race 12 months ago, said: "We don't know and it's amazing every time she performs. She did it.

"She's a very professional filly. I love the way she does things. She's a very special filly. She's three for three and has won on soft turf and firm turf."

Brown, who trains the winner for New Money Honey's owners E Five Racing Thoroughbreds, added: "They found us a nice filly to work with and sent her in so far ahead of the others. From then, my staff just worked with her - without a good team you can't do it."

September's trainer Aidan O'Brien, who also saw Happily finish last of the 14 runners, said: "She missed the break but finished well. She's run a good race.

"That's the way it goes. Seamus's filly ran well and Ryan [Moore] just looked after Happily, he said he knew very early that his chance was gone. It was a little bit rough back there but they'll be fine and they'll be two nice fillies for next year.

"Happily could get the Oaks trip next year, she just wasn't six-furlong pace into her stride."

O'Brien's son Joseph had Now You're Talking come eighth, while the John Gosden-trained Juliet Capulet was 11th and Madeline 13th for Roger Varian.

Frankie Dettori, who rode Juliet Capulet, said: "She's a sprinter. Can't help that, I can't give them stamina. That was good, I was out in front. I heard some shouting from the back but I was fine."
