'They have treated us disgracefully' - Scottish independents fear for future
Betting shops may still be open for now in Scotland, unlike their counterparts in England, but that provides only a little comfort for bookmakers such as John Heaton, chairman of independent chain Scotbet.
The inconsistency in the way the sector has been treated by the various levels of government across the United Kingdom has been a source of increasing frustration among betting shop operators.
In Scotland, high-street bookmakers have not had the same financial support from government as operators in England have received.
