Few road trips boost the spirits as much as travelling alongside Hadrian's Wall on a clear and crisp winter morning.

Pass the iconic Roman landmark in an easterly direction on the Military Road and a little further north you will find the remote village of Great Bavington, where something equally uplifting is taking place.

Here, two residents of these harsh rural lands of stock farming are working round the clock in all weathers to run a small but powerful team of racehorses.
