Ed Walker's stop-start journey to the upper echelons of British racing has found its mirror image in Starman, the electric sprinter who has taken him to the top level at last. Both have followed career paths that have looked progressive for the most part, but with setbacks along the way.

An unusually dry forecast for Qipco British Champions Day raised hopes the Ascot ground would allow Starman to play his part, with Walker's breakthrough Group 1 winner attempting to crown his brilliant campaign in spectacular style in the Champions Sprint.
