'It's terrifying, mind-blowing in Britain - but we've opened up a new avenue'

Lewis Porteous talks to the Grade 1-winning trainer about his new venture

Back in 2020, Tom George welcomed in the new year with Summerville Boy's victory in the Relkeel Hurdle. Off the back of 52 winners the previous season, things appeared to be pretty rosy in his neck of the Cotswolds, but the reality was something rather different.

The 55-year-old has been on the training treadmill since 1993 and the never-ending cycle was beginning to wear thin. The father of two did not necessarily need to get off the merry-go-round, but he at least had to change its direction.

Three years on from Summerville Boy's success on New Year's Day at Cheltenham and something has certainly changed. George’s glass has gone from half empty to full to the brim, with the trainer jovial and positive about the future.
