'He calls him his gorgeous horse' - our panel were taken by one weekend wonder
Nico de Boinville, Keith Donoghue and Charlie Longsdon give their views
What was your verdict on the Betfair Chase?
Nick Alexander, trainer Bristol De Mai is such a likeable horse and for him to win it three times is just what jump racing is all about. Lostintranslation didn’t fire and Clan Des Obeaux looked as though he didn’t quite stay so how much he achieved I don’t know but he still won a good race on the day.
Nico de Boinville, jockey It was great the rain came for Bristol De Mai, who got a fantastic ride from Daryl Jacob. He’s a Haydock specialist and Nigel Twiston-Davies primed him to perfection for the big day. It was a shame a crowd wasn’t there because they’d have loved it. Clan Des Obeaux deserves to be right at the head of the King George market.
Keith Donoghue, jockey It’s a very tough race, a war of attrition every year, and Bristol De Mai is as honest as they come. All he does is gallop and jump. Kempton suits Clan Des Obeaux best so he did well to finish as close as he did. Lostintranslation was never travelling. That can’t have been his true running.
